What are the biggest problems we need to solve? How? (USA) Just to encourage conversation, let's consider a few questions in no particular order.
1. How can we fix our broken healthcare system?
Easier said than done, transition to a single payer system like the rest of the developed world. Remember Obama Care is a system designed to to keep insurance companies in business, not treat healthcare as a human right. Maybe nationalize the whole system?
Clean up the environment and cut way back on all the cheap junk food would also be helpful. Teach people how to live healthy and make it affordable both money and time-wise. Taking responsibility is cool and all if people know what to do.
2. What can we do about increasing homelessness, skyrocketing rent and housing costs?
Get all the corporate conglomerations out of the home-buying business. House people in all the vacant properties as they transition into homes. There is NO excuse for anyone having to live on the street. Maybe a Universal Basic Income? There's more for me to learn here.
3. When can we make intelligence and knowledge cool again?
When did being a dumbass become cool? Mad respect for all in the skilled trades, just add a little basic science, history and art. Build a better BS detector to fight ignorance. No college? No problem, learn for free at your local library. Study stuff and question everything!
4. Will climate change indeed be the end of civilization?
It will change it for sure. We are an adaptable bunch! Deal with is now or it will deal with us later. Add nukes, AI and greed and it is easy to fall into despair. Don't give in!
5. Can we solve income inequality which is at the core of so many of our problems?
We are about to find out. A billionaire victory will be pyrrhic victory. Congrats assholes, you now rule over ashes and wastelands. Enjoy your bunker! Let's pick another path.
Solving number 5 fixes so many things. I say as long as one person is hungry, naked and malnourished, we cannot afford billionaires.
I'm sure you can think of many more questions. We got work to do and failure is not an option!
