FAFO? Let's Do Better

FAFO? This is yet another example of our oversimplification of political problems. It's all too easy to laugh at the Trumpers now getting crushed by Trump's insane policies. These insane policies, deportation without due process, a never ending game of TARIFF chicken, science denial, weaponizing of the DOJ, gutting Medicaid so the rich can have tax cuts- with so much more to come hurts more than Trump voters. This insanity hurts us all. All of this destabilizes the entire economy. I for one, take no delight in or gain no solstice from “I told you so.” I don't see how that moves the ball down the field if you will. We know it's going to take years not decades to repair all the damage it's being done. Deepening division will only make this harder. Let's think of some different approaches.

We need to keep the door open for those who tire of the Trump cult. Rather than “I told you so,” a simple “welcome back” will go much further along the road to recovery.  It's hard for some to get their head around the overall abandonment of vast areas and entire peoples  of our country by the political class. The false prophet Trump came along and pretended to care about those left behind. In reality he was just using them for his own ends. Sure, the most extreme among us will never leave the cult of Trump. After he's gone, they will find another grotesque figure to gravitate to. That individual will likely be even more dangerous than Trump himself.

Instead of like today's Republicans, scapegoating others, we would do well to realize we are all in this together and can use all the help we can get. That includes my fellow citizens who have been manipulated by Trump's lies but now see the light. It may not be possible to reform the Democratic Party into something more the awful neo-liberal party they are today. Let's not forget they too share responsibility in selling out our industrial capacity, they too support the neo-liberal order along with a healthy dose of American exceptionalism at the cost of everyone else. I'm sorry Greens but running the same candidates for president every four years is not going to build a viable political party  capable of producing real change. Rather, try to grow from the bottom up, elect people to school boards, city councils and state senators! Friends, there can be no shortcuts to the better world we want. Look out for the all too common distractions!

This week it's been nothing but the Donald and Elon feud pulling our attention away from the awful bill now making its way through our Congress. Who could have guessed two egotistical billionaires were not really united in making lives better for everyone? Who could have guessed real goals were self aggrandizement and growing their own bank accounts? It has all the trappings of a WWE event, the most powerful man in the world versus the richest man in the world (Aside note, I think that's really Vladimir Putin). We will find out soon enough if this actually has any long-term consequences.  Personally, I view it as a distraction from recklessly increasing our wealth divide.

FAFO?  We have to do better than that! Let's focus on helping everyone through this nightmare. Let's keep the door open. If enough of us get involved, we can force political reform that will lead to positive change. Sitting on the couch, hoping it all goes away, fixes nothing. Please get in the game, we need you. Keep in mind, the distractions are there for a reason. They are nothing more than an attempt to take your eyes off efforts to  further our wealth divide and destabilize our society for their own gain. Nonetheless, I  freely admit I do take pleasure in this billionaire battle!
